A memorial concert, a special remembrance of Rev. Julie Harley with music, poetry and scripture, will take place this Sunday, March 2, at 4 p.m. at 848 Lake St. The concert, led by First United musicians and Chancel Choir, is offered in thanksgiving of the life and witness of Harley, former pastor of First United Church of Oak Park, who died recently of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). A reception to thank Julie's caregivers will precede the concert.
A free-will offering will be collected at this concert. Gifts to Julie's Fund (not tax-deductible) will be distributed by her family to Unity Hospice, Les Turner ALS Foundation and Julie's caregivers as a final thank you for their dedicated work.
A memorial service will also be held at First United on Saturday, March 8, at 4 p.m., featuring scripture readings, hymns and special music that Julie herself chose for the occasion. Tax-deductible gifts in memory of Julie Harley will be directed — at her request — to the church's endowment fund.
A free parking lot in back of First United Church is accessible from Kenilworth Avenue. For more information, contact First United Church at 708-386-5215.
