Impeach Obama

Later: Reader Mary Kay wonders about the Illinois Militia tag — they seem farther right than I, but I am not sure.

They apparently train for combat, which I don't, and they do not rule out forceful resistance vs. overreaching government activity, which I have shrunk from considering or entertaining, nor have felt the need to do so.

But they espouse solid principles which I wholly endorse, and who else is making an issue of the execrable exercise of personal power by Obama, for whom I have no respect? There we go.

Here is their neatly stated self-description from their rather well-executed Facebook site:

We are not conspiracy theorists! Here are our thoughts on that: 1) If you don't believe in any conspiracies you have issues and 2) If you believe everything is a conspiracy you have issues. Don't push conspiracy theory beliefs too strongly on our page or you will be blocked.

We are not:
1) anti government
2) racist
3) violent
4) sexist
5) plotting
We are:
1) pro constitutional government
2) judgmental of character, not color
3) peaceful until there's no reasonable choice
4) accepting of men or women
5) training to be ready and to react with extremely minimal time and with extreme force and proficiency through extensive training for all scenarios.

Impeach?

They want to protect the Constitution, but I'm guessing none of these militia guys has, shall we say, a robust understanding of the document. Any legal scholars among them? Probably not.

From the Illinois Militia: --We are an active militia throughout the state of Illinois. Our purpose is to see that the constitution is restored/maintained as the law of the land as it was written. By ballots or by bullets the constitution will be upheld-- You're down with that, holy man? A lot of talk at church about ballots or bullets? Fanatic. I guess if you haven't had a real job in more than 40 years, the mind wanders into dark places.

Yeah, OP Res, skinheads in waiting. "peaceful until there's no reasonable choice"? but "training to be ready and to react with extremely minimal time and with extreme force and proficiency through extensive training for all scenarios." You confuse INTOLERANCE, which your ilk love to accuse OP liberals of exhibiting, with simple disagreement or distain. Nobody stopped these goofs from carrying a banner and assembling peacefully and calling themselves a "militia." Doesn't mean they're respected.

Bill D..."Skin Heads"? A quite extreme, intolerant view on your part. Very open minded...very OP. Don't engage in dialogue about their ideas, just play character assassination. Bill Doogan, this Todd guy must have really pooped in your lunch bucket. Do you have any other thoughts? Ray & Jim aren't grumpy. As a 51-year old myself, it get's frustrating trying to impart reality & your own experiences on those who are committed to repeating mistakes of others gone before. I bid you all peace.

@Ray Simpson: I don't think that any of the commenters below find this sign "offensive" but many do find it stupid - there's a difference. I am not so certain that being able to spell should be considered a sign of intelligence in this age of spell-check. For once I would like to hear the right give an actual example of executive over-reach from this prez and why it is so unprecedented in the history of the presidency. Let have an actual debate instead of another string of pouty posts.

No, they are grumpy old baby boomers & authoritarians who talk down to others. Ray has no 2nd Amendment rights in IL, but he can't figure that out. IL residents must wait 30 days for a FOID card before they can buy a box of ammo, let alone a gun. The US Federal Court hands down an order to the IL legislature to pass a concealed carry bill, and HB183 sponsor Brandon Phelps & NRA lobbyist Todd Vandermyde give the saps an UNLIMITED privacy waiver, plus Duty to Inform w/ criminal penalties. Duh.

Oh please. These clowns are skin heads in waiting. Run off and play your war games, boys.

Ray and Jim = grumpy old men (but not nearly as entertaining as the movie version).

Hey Jim--you were mistaking a thumb for a finger.

Free speech in action; you don't have to agree with them.

@ Seriously? can anyone tell us if Ken Trainor has traded in his desk chair for a 2 wide love seat, so the FCC navigator can sit and hold his hand as he composes his column. Are you progressives as willing to forgo your 1st amendment rights as you were willing to overturn my 2nd amendment rights? The Obama administration doesn't trust you any more than they trust me and are willing to trash the Bill of Rights to assure their hold on power.

" ...who else is making an issue of the execrable exercise of personal power by Obama, for whom I have no respect?" Setting aside the silliness of suggesting that Obama has exercised more personal power than any other president, does the "who else" mean other than the non-stop, hysterical blathering by Fox News loudmouths and other right-wing media types?

good for them

Good to see the local KKK finally stopped spending all their time trolling on oakpark.com and finally are getting together IRL.

Ironically, the same folks who are against the content of this message are also typically the same folks who are against the proposed I-290 expansion. 3 lanes = more backups, which means more time for each vehicle to read this sign. OP officials...make these signs less effective...do not block the expansion!

@MichaelO from Oak Park, it's people like you who make blogging so hard. I mean you, Michael with your painfully on-target critique of my thumbs-up subhead. Couldn't you just have complained to a friend? I leave the t-up subhead up so yr comment makes sense. It hurts but I do it anyway. Sob.

anon - that same comment under a 'Robespierre' name would have been chuckle-worthy.

Right, left, republican, independent, democrat, libertarian, conservative, liberal, tea party, green. You're all crazy. Roll out the guillotine.

Don't forget the "activists" who stood at Harlem & Lake every Saturday for years with Bush as Hitler masks & signs...no, when it comes to insanity & intolerance, it's the American left that is far and away the winner.

Does the Farmer's Market in Oak Park still have the "Impeach Bush and Cheney" table set up?

Ray Simpson from Oak Park, Illinois

Lets see if I have this straight? It is OK to picket WalMart with slick union furnished signs, it is OK to picket Wall Street because your heart is pure. It is moronic and dumb for a couple of guys with a home made sign (spelled correctly) to express a sentiment that you find offensive. That is, or should be, the definition of intolerance.

Impeach?

Posted: February 24th, 2014 5:06 PM

So they say they don't believe in conspiracies (hey, look, we're not crazy!) yet they went straight to "impeach" without much political knowledge of how politics works in between. Fellas, join a candidate's campaign! I'm sure that's too boring. IF you don't want to look nuts, don't act like it.

"?drivers gave thumbs up." Really, Jim? Were you there to see their thumbs? Did you get a count? It was still kind of cold out. Did the thumb uppers open their windows to show their support or were the thumbs pressed against the windshield? I think if what you saw was pressed up against the windshield they probably weren't thumbs.

@ OP Whitey - Not only do they know how to spell, they know that impeachment is the constitutional way to remove a lawless president.

The biggest news to come out of this story: These morons were able to spell correctly.
