On the tail of receiving a prestigious academic excellence award for the year 2010, River Forest Public School District 90 Schools have received word that they’ve also landed the 2011 SchoolSearch Bright Red Apple Award for educational excellence.
It’s the 18th year in a row the district has been honored with the Bright Red Apple, which is awarded to only eight per cent of school districts in Illinois, or 73 of 868 total districts.
District 90 has nabbed the Bright Red Apple every year since 1994, for acing subjects such as academic performance, student-to-teacher ratio, total expenditure per student, teacher education level, and average teacher salary.
District 90’s Red Apple report card showed more than half of all teachers hold Master’s degrees, and more than 88 percent of students grades 3-8 are meet or surpass state standards in reading and mathematics.
“River Forest is well known for having one of the top schools in the state,” said Thomas Hagerman, superintendent of Dist. 90 schools. “We have an extremely talented, dedicated staff that strives every day to provide the best possible educational environment for our students, and it’s an honor to see that effort recognized once again.”
