Mark your calendar for this is a hugely popular charity fundraiser that draws not just OPRFHS families but folks throughout the community. For $15 per adult ($10 for students with ID), you get to pick out your own pottery bowl, handmade by the roughly 50 students in the OPRFHS Wheel-Throwing Club. Fill your bowl with your choice of soup, which is made by our Food Service class as well as donated by local restaurants; bread and water round out the meal. There's a great spirit of community in the cafeteria where the event is held. Instead of an entrance ticket, for instance, you'll receive a nametag, to encourage interaction and conversation.
Picking that special bowl is a big deal—we have tables with several hundred on display, and they're beautiful. The students have been working on them since September; some students make a few, while others might make as many as 75. They hold a couple of all-day Saturday "bowl-a-thons," most recently in January, when professional potters came in to work with the students. Church youth groups and Girl Scout troops have also helped decorate the bowls. You get to keep your bowl, and the proceeds from the event are split evenly among the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, PADS, and Global Alliance for Africa. Last year the event raised around $11,000.
Friday, February 22, 6:00-8:00 p.m., South Cafeteria.
