The Lake Theatre First Tuesday Film Club has just announced their March selection of "Hyde Park on Hudson," a film for which lead actor, Bill Murray, received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. This monthly film club presentation is slated for Tuesday, March 5th at noon and 7PM, with tickets priced at $6 for matinee/seniors and $8.50 for adults. Advance tickets are available online or at the Lake Theatre Box Office, located at 1022 Lake Street in Oak Park.
In June 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (played by Bill Murray) readies to host the King and Queen of England (Samuel West and Olivia Colman) for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson, in upstate New York, marking the first-ever visit of a reigning British monarch to America. As Britain faces imminent war with Germany, the royals are desperately looking to FDR for U.S. support.
But international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of FDR's domestic establishment, as his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams), mother Sara (Elizabeth Wilson), and secretary Missy (Elizabeth Marvel) will all play a role in making the royal weekend an unforgettable one.
Seen through the eyes of Daisy (Laura Linney), Franklin's neighbor and intimate, the weekend will produce not only a special relationship between two great nations, but, for Daisy— and through her, for us all — a deeper understanding of the mysteries of love and friendship.
A film discussion will follow both screenings led in the afternoon by Joe Barillari, former film instructor at College of DuPage, and in the evening by Doug Deuchler, local film and theatre critic.
