In its 54th year of operation, the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation will give awards to locals with a major philanthropic impact on the community at this year's Celebration of Philanthropic Excellence event on Feb. 18 at the Carleton of Oak Park Hotel.
The Excellence in Philanthropy Award recipients are: Nancy Waichler, for Outstanding Individual of 2013; Opportunity Knocks Auxiliary Board, for Outstanding Business of 2013; and Carl Faust and Maeve Mascarenhas (both 10-years-old), for Outstanding Youth of 2013.
"There is an essential connection between philanthropic leadership and community substantiality," said the foundation's Executive Director Sophia Lloyd in a press release. "Excellence in Philanthropy awards inform and encourage others to give back and, by doing so, strengthen the community through philanthropy."
Each award recipient will receive grant money. Waichler will give her $1,000 grant to The Nineteenth Century Scholarship Fund. Opportunity Knocks' $500 grant will be invested back into the organization and Faust and Mascarenhas will give their $500 grant to West Suburban PADS.
