For those who love winter

Jack Crowe, who can't get enough of the outdoors not matter the season, counters Riley's pool antidote with a reminder that winter has its attractions too.

"For those who think the glass is half full this cold and snowy winter, the Des Plaines River Trail is experiencing excellent cross-country skiing conditions," he writes, "the best in years. The base is deep and well-packed. So take those cross-country skis out of the basement, drive to the trail head on Thatcher just north of Russell's Barbecue, and experience Mother Nature at her finest."

According to Ecclesiastes 3:1, "there is an appointed time for everything, and there is a time for every event under heaven."

Amen, Ken. And if I was in the Midwest this gawdawful winter, this would definitely be the appointed time to sit my butt down on the couch for the duration. :)
