In a ceremony held Oct. 22 at the Hilton Austin in Austin, Texas, the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) named Ray Heise, former Oak Park village attorney, a "Local Government Fellow."
The IMLA Local Government Fellows Program recognizes attorneys as legal specialists in the field of local government law and encourages attorney proficiency and competency in the local government legal field.
Heise, who retired last year after serving for more than 35 with the village and 28 years as village attorney, was honored at the IMLA luncheon. During his time in Oak Park, he drafted, implemented and enforced numerous intergovernmental agreements.
He now teaches as a guest lecturer in University of Illinois Chicago's Masters in Public Administration Program. He is also a member of the Home Rule Attorneys Committee of the Illinois Municipal League, the Local Government Attorneys of Illinois, the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois Bar Association.
