River Grove, Ill. – Glover O. Johnson III of Oak Park was sworn in as a member of the Triton College Board of Trustees during the December 17 board meeting. He was appointed to the trustee position, following the October resignation of trustee Thomas S. Gary. Mr. Gary resigned as a result of an extension of his mobilization in active duty with the United States Navy.

Johnson will serve on the Board until a successor is elected at the next regular election for board members, which will take place in April 2015.

A strong supporter of higher education, Johnson is also active in community organizations and activities and holds strong local ties to the Triton College district. He is a member of St. Giles Church in Oak Park, serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ignation Spirituality Project, is a Board member of the Southwestern University Visitors Board, and is active with the Boys & Girls Club of America and the Boy Scouts. “I am thankful to be here,” stated Mr. Johnson. “Triton College is an invaluable resource to the community and I look forward to working with our other trustees, our employees, and our students. I am especially proud to be a member of a Board of Trustees that exhibits such a powerful commitment to bring the opportunity of higher education and a better life to every resident in the district.”

Mr. Johnson is quite familiar with Triton College and the many ways in which the institution serves the district. He is a proud parent whose children attended Fenwick High School, one of the schools within the Triton district. In addition, his son, Garrison Johnson, attended Triton College to complete coursework towards his baccalaureate degree. Garrison was present to witness the auspicious occasion of his father’s appointment to the Board of Trustees.

“We welcome Glover Johnson to the Triton College Board of Trustees. His commitment to the Triton community as well as his business background lead me to believe that Glover will be a valuable addition to our Board.” remarked Board Chairman Mark Stephens. “I personally look forward to working with him in serving the Triton College district.”

“I am pleased to welcome Mr. Glover to the Triton College family,” said President Patricia Granados. “Like the other Board members, he is a strong supporter of community colleges. Together we will make Triton College stronger in our next 50 years.”
