OakPark.com is kicking off its reader submitted photo blog with more pics of hawks...

Don Anderson and Rachel Pildis, on the 900 block of North Taylor, had an unexpected visitor last Wednesday. A hawk was perched on a backyard trellis just long enough to pose for a couple of photos. They believe it's either a Cooper's Hawk or a Sharp Shinned Hawk.

A hawk was also spotted in northwest Oak Park earlier this October.

Today my husband and I saw a Coooper's Hawk on the utility pole by the alley of our house at Division and Hayes in northeast Oak Park. Ispotted it because of the unusual sound it made, and later I looked it up. It could be a sharp-shinned but I think it was the Cooper's Hawk because of the sound and the head and tail.

I have been feeding the birds at my south OP home for 40 years. My feeding station attracts all the local small birds and the many different types of hawks we have in OP. I see at least one in my yard daily, feeding. I saw a red tail catch a dove right in mid air right before my eyes while looking out the window.

Nice shot! I've seen these hawks hunting near bird feeders...
