Girl Scout troops in Service Unit 409 (Oak Park , Forest Park , River Forest) were busy in November and December collecting coats and other winter clothing items for the Kids Kloset located at First United Church in Oak Park. The Kids Kloset provides children's clothing for families with limited resources at a very nominal price. Troops decorated and set out collection boxes at schools, libraries, and businesses. Donations were collected and delivered. Some troops are also helping sort clothing donations at the Kloset, while other troops collected toys for the Kids Kloset "Toy Store."

Supplemental funds for this service project were provided by the West Cook County —Chicago Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. This generous grant enabled five troops to make shopping trips to purchase additional coats and other new items like socks, underwear, and scarves that were especially needed at Kids Kloset.

Susan Zaruba, director of the Kids Kloset, said "I have never been so impressed with a group of young people as I have been with the Girl Scouts. After meeting personally with a Daisy troop, a Brownie troop, and a high school Girl Scout troop, it is so evident that these girls are being raised to serve and think of others. What a gift in this day and age! The Kids Kloset has never been so well stocked with winter clothing, and it is all because of the effort the Girl Scouts have made. This has been a priceless partnership."
