This NOVEMBER 12 (!) column by Wed Jnl regular John Hubbuch had its most recent comment (of 190!) at 1:52 this morning — not counting mine, hours later, at 191.

For which this sometime columnist and blogger wants to congratulate what may be the all-time winner in # of comments. CONGRATULATIONS, JOHN!

As for my comment, at 191, have a look. It's a zinger.

"Violet Aura  To relive something that happened before any of us was born is not an education and is of no value"..So if we follow your beliefs violet, why do we have history class in school, why do learn about any thin that happened before we were born.. why I'm glad you asked violet... 1 we study history as to not repeat it, we study history as to learn from it, we study history as to let a people know how evil another group treated us, we must study Hitler as to prevent it from happening agai

@Jona: Let's take your premise to its logical conclusion: every soul on this plane learns about every form of slavery, every lash of the whip. Now what? How does that knowledge do a thing? Does it stop exploitation? How many people reading this own Apple computers? Isn't that a form of slavery? People are working 12-16 hours a day and living at the factory in dorms. If all of them decided to leave, if they believed there was an alternative, they could do something different.

Perhaps the title should be revised to, "do americans need educating in slavery?" Perhaps the world, due to the fact most African slaves went to Brazil, Mexico and the Caribean islands. Slavery is perhaps the oldest form of business besides prostitution. Fact, there are more sex slaves today, than all of the Antlantic African slaves trade. White people, asians, africans ect have all been slaves and still are at this very moment. Enough liberal blame, nobody is excempt.

Cont. then they are enslaved. There is not just one type of slavery. If White people are "educated" to know just how brutalized BP were 150 years ago, what happens? Do they become more compassionate as a result and if so, what does that look like? Is feeling sorry for someone a compassionate act? Being cast as perrenial victim can hardly feel good or powerful. I actually believe there is a push to constantly remind BP that they were/are victims and that is utterly destructive and false!

To relive something that happened before any of us was born is not an education and is of no value. The reason I can say this is that plenty of us have learned many facts about slavery and it hasn't lessened anything negative about what happened and whatever continues to occur. Whatever you put your attention upon increases. If you think that reading stories about crime will make you safer, see how you feel afterwards. I think that slavery is internal. As long as a person sees limitations...
