Want to learn how to be better prepared for an emergency, and how to help your neighbors and community in an emergency situation? Check out the River Forest Citizen Corps volunteer training session this Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. - noon. The training will be held at Parmer Hall, Room 108 at Dominican University in River Forest. Anyone may participate and no registration is required. The Citizens Corps is looking for volunteers, and there are quite a variety of ways you can get involved . In addition to training volunteers to assist in the community during and emergency, this group will also offer ongoing volunteer opportunities throughout the year at special events, education programs and more.
The River Forest Citizen Corps is a FEMA-Based Volunteer Emergency Support created to help coordinate volunteer activities that can make the community safer in case of emergencies. The Citizen Corps will also assist first responders in any emergency situation, support local groups hosting public events with support such as traffic control or first aid tents and help educate the public on safety and emergency preparedness. Lots of behind the scenes volunteers are needed as well - administrative help, database assistance and light housekeeping.
Spend an hour or two a month volunteering for the River Forest Citizen Corps - your community will thank you for it! Former Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, Indian Guides or even those of us who spent hours watching Mighty Mouse swoop in to save the day...this is your chance to be prepared, help out in an emergency and make our community a safer place!
