The Gotham Girls Roller Derby league from New York, ranked first in the eastern region, took advantage of the practice space at The ARC, 18 Chicago Ave., just prior to taking third place in the “Uproar on the Lakeshore” National Roller Derby Championships held November 5-7 at UIC Pavilion in Chicago.  They resoundingly beat the Philly Roller Girls, currently second in the eastern region, 162-51.

The Gotham Girls rented the shared practice space at 18 Chicago Ave. for an intense and impressive two hour practice on Friday morning, prior to their first competitive bout on Saturday.  They showed their strength, speed, agility and teamwork in addition to graciousness and good attitudes while visiting Oak Park.

Chicago’s premier roller derby league, the Windy City Rollers, also practiced at the ARC prior to championships as they’d already put their floor down at the UIC Pavilion.

Oak Park’s own recreational roller derby league, Derby Lite, providing roller skating for fun and fitness for women old enough to know better, was thrilled to host both Gotham and WCR at the ARC.
