Flushing the toilet on the 2010 Elections

I guess it's time to close the book, or if you prefer, flush the toilet on the 2010 elections. Some of my friends and family (mainly my wife) gave me flak for my 'Don't Vote' column in The Wednesday Journal. So I was guilted into adding a vote to Quinn's 19,413 victory margin, and I closed Forrest Claypool's beat down from 212,521 votes to 212, 520. Remember every vote counts. Not really. Your vote does make a difference - if the family is deciding between pizza or burgers for dinner.

But there were some interesting results. Karen Yarborough who represents some of us in the Illinois 7th House District won with 88.3% of the vote. She always wins, but this time she beat Princess Dempsey. Are you kidding me? Ms. Yarborough a commoner housed a princess. Crazy. I bet if Princess Di were alive she would have given Ms. Yarborough a run for her money!

Fifty percent of Cook County eligible voters voted. Good for them. Now on the state and county level it made absolutely no difference in government even after historically bad government of Rod and Todd. Aren't the Simpsons' Flanders children named Rod and Todd? Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it.

All the judges got re-elected even the ones the bar associations and the newspapers wouldn't endorse, and that is a very low bar indeed. I guess we have better justice in Cook County than we knew or appreciated.

But the best part is we get to do this foolishness all over again in 2012. Hope springs eternal.
