Don't Feel Too Sorry For DRose

Save your pity for the guy who works construction or unloads trucks. When he blows out his knees, IF it was on the job he might get Workmen's Comp, but when that runs out he's done, and like DRose he has to rely on his high school education to find a non- manual labor job. DRose is in a similiar position except he's guaranteed a 100 million dollars over the next 5 years.

It is true that he will never realize his dream of playing in the NBA and winning an MVP award. Oh. He did that dream. OK. He won't ever be able to get married, have kids, live in a nice house, drive nice cars, go on cool vacations, and spend time with his friends and family. Oh. He can do that too.

But he won't ever be able to be the greatest player of all time or be inducted into the Basketball HOF. True. I feel his pain. I wanted to be President of the United States. Never did it. But I did become President of the Huskie Booster Club.

More I think of it Derrick is in a pretty good spot compared to his Simeon high school team mates, or ALMOST EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD.

Chandler, I think you're missing the author's point. Rose is chronically injured, rendering any special skill he has moot. I have a bag of cement in my garage that can do what Rose does now, for free. If the Bulls would like to hire my bag of cement, it will work for a mere 50 million dollars over the next five years. That's a 50% savings!

Oh brother. Do you ever wonder why Derrick makes a lot of money? BECAUSE HE HAS A SPECIAL SKILL THAT PAYS A LOT OF MONEY. Those worker men who only get some Workmen's Comp when they get hurt? Sure, we appreciate what they do because someone has to do those jobs. But they don't posses the skills that make Derrick so successful. No one was stopping those worker's to develop the same skills that Derrick has.
