Blackout Wednesday

You may be surprised to know, but the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the day on which more alcohol is consumed than any other day. The epicenter for the drunken revelry in the near western suburbs is Madison Street in Forest Park sometimes known as The Street of Lost Dreams. There's signage on a number of bars advertising Black Wednesday playing on the Black Friday shopping day that kicks off the Christmas shopping season the day after Christmas, but Blackout Wednesday really is the better appellation given the the alcohol abuse that will take place.

It would be interesting to know what if anything the Forest Park Police Department does to discourage the breaking of the law on this special night. Rigorous enforcement of the statutes against drunk driving, public intoxication and underage drinking would make for a very busy evening, but I'm guessing there is a relaxtion of the law so as to avoid a chill on the bar owner's profits. Hopefully nobody dies. Cheers.
