I’d like to call this blog, The Blog Café. I’d like to think of it as coffee with friends, a chat with neighbors and a sharing of information in a casual friendly way. It’s the destination for ‘what’s going on, in and about River Forest’. I see it as a way for our community to share ideas, keep up to date and learn more about our Village. I truly believe that great ideas can come from small conversations. So let the conversations begin!

It’s no secret to those who know me that I especially care about sustainable living and creating a healthy environment for our children and ourselves. It’s therefore not a surprise that I should start here! PlanItGreen is the latest topic on the lips of many. It’s the name of the sustainability plan for River Forest and Oak Park and is part of the Community Works partnership with the Oak Park and River Forest Community Foundation, Seven Generations Ahead and the Delta Institute. There is a matching grant, funded by the Grand Victoria Foundation, to provide funding for sustainability in our Community. Of course that begs the question, what is sustainability and how should we spend dollars on it? A survey was designed to ask our community what is important to each individual, business and resident and the more who complete the survey, the better understanding the Foundation will have on where and how the dollars should be spent.

It’s also no secret to those who know me that I am a big believer in participation. I think we all need to join in and be active in our Village. Be it in small ways or large ways, we all should participate in some way. Isn’t that in itself a sustainability plan? So I am all about completing the survey. Everyone can be an instrumental part of the planning process.

If you want to learn more, there are information forums being held around town so one can ask questions to obtain a full understanding or you can just click here to take the survey and share your thoughts. There’s even a video on YouTube you can watch to gain insight. Or you can comment on this blog and we can all talk about it and help each other learn, share and understand!
