Take advantage of a great resource in our community over the next two weekends. MOMENTA is bringing a rich collaboration between live music and dance to the stage at the Doris Humphrey Memorial Theatre in Oak Park on November 6, 7, 13 and 14. The evening dance concerts feature a premiere of a new dance work to original music composed by Oak Park composer James Falzone, who will conduct and perform with the Allos Musica Ensemble.
The program on the MOMENTA website looks really interesting, featuring:
- Three Lamentations - Based on traditional Middle Eastern laments this work for MOMENTA is a selection from Allos Musica’s newly released CD – “Lamentations” – a meditation on Phil Ochs’ phrase: “In such ugly times, the only true protest is beauty.” Three talented women have collaborated on the choreography, Sarah Cullen Fuller and Karen Castleman, both formerly with Hubbard Street Dance Company, and Ruth Page Award winner Mei Kuang Chen. They also perform in the work, joined by JP Tenuta, formerly with Luna Negra Dance Company and Lyric Opera.
- Seven Beauties by Valery Dolgallo and Paquita, originally by Marius Petipa, staged by Randall Newsom.
- Soaring and Sonata Pathetique historical dance works by Doris Humphrey, both from 1920 and choreographed by Humphrey with her mentor Ruth St. Denis, as well as Grieg Concerto, from 1928, one of Humphrey’s first works as an independent choreographer.
- Contemporary works on the program will include a premiere of a new work by Anita Fillmore for five young men and Kris Lenzo, one of MOMENTA’s dancers with disabilities, and her haunting work based on a painting by Paul Delvaux called The Village of the Mermaids. A delightful work by a young MOMENTA alumna Connor Cornelius, Through My Binoculars, showcases each girl in a small group, and the evening finishes with the wonderful, sensual work, El Bosque by Alberto Arias.
The concert takes place on Saturdays, November 6 & 13 at 8:00 PM, and Sundays, November 7 & 14 at 7:00 PM, at The Doris Humphrey Memorial Theatre / The Academy of Movement and Music, 605 Lake Street, Oak Park, IL.
Tickets at the door: $20/Adults $10/Seniors & Students $5/Children
