Sacred jazz

Friday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m., Good Shepherd Lutheran Church:

Good Shepherd hosts monthly live jazz programs on the third Friday of each month.  Duke Ellington, usually known for his big band spectrum, considered his Sacred Concerts as the best music he had ever written. This program highlights his Sacred Concert #2. All are welcome. Pre-show refreshments at 7:10 p.m. Good Shepherd (www.GoodShepherdLC.org) is located at 611 Randolph (corner of East and Randolph) in Oak Park. There is no admission fee, but free-will donations to support the jazz concert program are appreciated.

Hidden Memory 

Monday, Nov. 21 at 1:15 p.m., 19th Century Club:

Anne Shimojima presents "Hidden Memory, An American Story." Inspired by her 91-year-old aunt, Shimojima researched her family's journey from Japan to the U.S. Through the war years, Japanese Americans faced racial prejudice, assembly centers, and incarceration camps. They also were in the majority of the legendary 442nd Regimental Combat team, the most highly decorated unit in U.S. military history. $10 suggested donation. Musical Journeys

Sunday, Nov. 20 at 3:30 p.m., 19th Century Club:

Composer, conductor and Newberry Library educator Stephen Kleiman returns to present a series highlighting music of distinctively different genres and the impact of technological innovations on how music has progressed and changed through the ages. Compare and contrast songs of Shubert, Schumann, Brahms, Faure, Smetana, Mussorgsky and Stephen Foster. Admission: $25 at the door. Cello dance

Church of Beethoven-Oak Park's season finale presents "Cello with Dance" with Oak Park choreographer Connor Cornelius. Church of Beethoven, Oak Park's informal, family-friendly classical music series welcomes back the Archbold Duo. Baroque & Beyond

The Symphony of OP-RF celebrates its 85th year with "Baroque & Beyond," a concert featuring pieces by Vivaldi, Danzi, Gabrieli and Mozart (Symphony no. 35). Soloists are Jennifer Gunn, on piccolo and flute, and Jonathan Gunn on clarinet. Pre-concert conversation with board President David Leehey takes place at 3 p.m. 7900 W. Division. Arts & Crafts & Beer

Friday, Nov. 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and 8 to 9:30 p.m., Pleasant Home:

Pleasant Home Foundation hosts an Arts & Crafts Beer Parlour. Three local microbreweries are showcased in the opulent architecture of historic Pleasant Home. Guests will find a bit of craft beer heaven in each of the mansion's awe-inspiring rooms while a local musician adds to the atmosphere. Contributing breweries are Kinslagher and Oak Park Brewing Company in Oak Park, and Exit Strategy in Forest Park. Tickets are $35 ($30 for Pleasant Home Foundation members). Gospel Choir reunion

Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m., OPRF High School:

The OPRF Gospel Choir is holding a reunion to celebrate 30 years of heavenly singing. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Past and present members will perform. Tickets are $10. 200 N. Scoville.

"Post-Prison Traumatic Stress Disorder" will be presented at the Oak Park Public Library Veterans Room on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m., part of the library's More Than a Month Series.

The annual Dominican University Albertus Magnus lecture, "All is Connected: Relationships and Truth in Laudato Si," by Dan Misleh, will be delivered on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Priory Auditorium, Priory Campus, 7200 W. Division St., River Forest.

On Sunday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m., The Community of Congregations Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be hosted by Oak Park Temple, 1235 N. Harlem Ave. in Oak Park, featuring clergy and faith leaders from multiple traditions and choirs from at least seven congregations. Xavier McElrath-Bey, senior advisor and national advocate with the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth, will preach. All are welcome.
