EDITOR'S NOTE: OakPark.com volunteer blogger Joanna Skubish recently blogged about a special fundraiser hosted by the Oak Park Women's Guild. Below is Joanna's original blog post.
On Saturday, November 20, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lake Theatre, the Oak Park Women's Guild is hosting a special showing of the "Bee Movie" in honor of former Guild Board member Kari Harris, a local mom of two small children, who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer earlier this year. It's only $5 to get in and children under 2 are free. 100% of all money brought in from tickets and any extra donations will go directly to Kari for medical costs and child care.
"Last year we did a similar fundraiser for another woman who was struck with breast cancer and we brought in 475 people - we are hoping to top that this time! It's so wonderful to see the community support," said Guild member Norah Scott.
Mark your calendar and head over to the Lake on November 20. Maybe your kids would like to help out by bringing some of their own money to donate at the event, or raising money by doing chores around the house to bring to the event. Everything helps. This cause is certainly something kids can relate to - a family needs some extra help in a tough time. Chances are, your kids may even know other families or members of your own family who have been affected by breast cancer. It's great for kids to know that they can help make a difference in someone's life.
