I'm in North Carolina for a wedding and a trip to Kitty Hawk where the Wright Brothers first flew. The local newspaper had a poll question:"Should North Carolina secede?" 58% were in favor. Obviously the question is a fanciful one designed to provoke interest in the little newspaper. I would remind North Carolina and its sister conferderate states that they did this once before, and it turned out rather badly for them. Remember the part when Sherman went marching.
I have a poll question:" Should the South be kicked out of the union?" The rest of us would lose grits, hillbilly hand fishing, country music, gator wrestling and a host of other Southern oddities. The remaining nation would be smarter, more enightened, more diverse and more tolerant. Way more government money goes into the South than tax revenue comes out. The South's departure would have minimal cultural impact because the artists would all move to the North or be kicked out of the New South. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea.
And one more thing. Barack would win for sure! Please sign my petition next spring when you visit Farmer's Market.
