Occupy Chicago!

Rough Edges

These "Wall Street" protests resonate with me.  So, I paid a visit to the corner of Jackson & LaSalle earlier today to see what was happening at our local financial district.  Occupy Chicago amounted to maybe a couple hundred people at rush hour, but they were a lively bunch.

I had a prolonged conversation with a man where I expressed my wish (first uttered in that bad summer of 2008) that maybe some of our troops should be brought home from Iraq & Afghanistan and redeployed in lower Manhattan.  The fantasy of our troops poking - ever so lightly with their bayonets, mind you - some of the rats that tanked our economy used to bring a little smile to my face.  Ahh, back in 2008 the lines were getting a little blurry as to just who the enemies of America really were.  Homeland Security indeed!

Well, maybe those lines are still blurry despite a couple of elections. And maybe 2012 will just bring more of the same, but it was nice to see someone speaking up about something.

Oh No, I was out of town and did not see the blogger photo. If they are outed, then they won't wear their bags and I won't even be able to identify their sex, body size, or crafty digits(fingers)! Definately have to get a copy of the blogger photo.

John Murtagh, WJ posted a picture of their one year anniversay for their bloggers. It showed their faces. For a progressive paper as the W.J. is, I would have thought there would be some African American's working at the W.J., or maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention.

Before committing, I'd like to know if there will be WJ Bloggers with bags on their head. I am dying to meet my fellow bloggers even if I don't get to see their faces.

Great. With all this loose talk I'll never get my free toaster.

Violet, Glad to see your interest. If we all do not start being more conscious about where our money is, and how we spend it we will all be morally culpable to the devastation of other people's lives. Point is stay away from the Big banks - Chase, Citi, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sacks. Chicago has the Metropolitan Banks. Thousands of atms over the nation. Also check out this site it can help you find a bank or credit union! http://moveyourmoneyproject.org

I support Occupy Oak Park as long as we're throwing out the taxing entities that continue to waste our tax dollars on stupidity and selfishness. Yes, I'm talking to YOU VIllage Board -- you ARE the 1% in this case! Don Harmon is right up there as well! Let's stop taxation without adequate representation!

Iris, I am busy during those hours; sorry! It's a Saturday if I am not mistaken. I have heard this will be happening nationwide regarding pulling money from banks. But do you have a recommendation for which bank to stash my vast fortune? Just because something says "community bank" doesn't mean they also don't have fees or other tricky policies.

Violet, the 7th Congressional District West MoveOn Council, powering the Rebuild the American Dream movement will be on the corner of Oak Park and Lake with information about the big banks on 11/5 from 11-1. We will be encouraging people to move their money out of banks such as Citibank, Chase and Bank of America. The plan is to march over to Chase so that folks can peacefully close their accounts. We fully support the Occupy Movement and hope to make changes locally. Please join us.

It would be nice if a business or two would occupy some of our vacant storefronts? ;)

Occupy Oak Park?! Isn't that akin to Occupy Haight/Ashbury? Oh wait--what am I saying? OP has lost its crunchy granola sensibilities. Maybe it IS time to occupy it.

I heard that Occupy Oak Park was happening on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 11:00a.m. at Scoville Park (Oak Park Ave. and Lake). True?

I can't figure out why American corporations would need to hire American's if they can find people in China to make the product cheaper and increase the profit when American's buy the American corporations products. Wait.... What if American's stopped buy American corporation products made in China? What would happen???? Who would buy them then????

Homeland security is to protect the rich from the rest of American's. There is no choice of a good leader, both do the same. Obama had campaign money from Goldman Sachs, then puts two of Goldman Sachs on his payroll. But it is nice the people get to express their rights as of now.
