Looking for an exciting getaway to the Caribbean that won't bust your bank account? BRAVO's third production of the season, Once on this Island, is JUST the ticket and it opens in the Brooks Auditorium on FRIDAY!
Once on This Island is a story within a story, told to calm a young girl during a storm. Set on a French Antilles mythical Caribbean island where class differences prevail, it's a fable about a peasant girl plucked from just such a storm by the gods and sheltered in a tree. There is a vast cast of characters, and an emphasis on storytelling throughout the play which is fiercely executed by this very talented cast of 85 students. Stimulating choreography, beautiful vocals from young seasoned voices, stunning costumes, and a set design that is creative and dramatic including 17' high projections, whisk us into the mythical Caribbean Island.
An exciting addition to the show is the wonderful collaboration with the Hatch Alumni Steel Drum Ensemble under the direction of Evan Jacobson! This 16 person ensemble will treat us to Island sounds during intermission.
And we're taking it on the road! In addition to three shows, a 30 person ensemble is traveling to Lincoln, Holmes and Whittier where the Hatch fourth graders will also join us for a special performance and talk back. The Island cast will perform a shortened excerpt of the show followed by an anticipated exciting and educational talk back and discussion of the shows content and messages.
Once on This Island is a beautiful folktale all ages will enjoy!
