Comprehensive Plan workshops, meetings continue
Business and community workshops and meetings are scheduled for Tues., Oct 30, as the process continues to update the Village's Comprehensive Plan. A business workshop will be held from 8 – 9:30 a.m. at the Lake Theatre, auditorium #3, 1022 Lake St. Community-wide meetings will be held from 1 – 2:30 p.m. in Oak Park Arms ballroom, 406 S. Oak Park Ave., and from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in Unity Temple, 875 Lake St. Residents and business representatives are invited to participate in the process to update the document that will help guide future policy, land use, budget priorities and capital improvement planning.. The process shifts to neighborhood meetings in November, with public forums scheduled for each of the community's eight public elementary schools. Stop smoking help available
Free nicotine replacement patches are available through the Break the Habit Program, sponsored by the Oak Park Health Department with funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health Tobacco Free Communities fund. Residents age 18 and older are eligible. To register, call the Illinois Quitline at 866.784.8937. Adult and teen residents interested in local smoking cessation support should contact the Health Department at708.358.5485.
Conservatory tours offered
Educational, docent-led tours of the historic Oak Park Conservatory are available to groups, including garden clubs, out-of-town visitors, architectural groups, seniors and scouts. Owned and operated by the Park District of Oak Park, the Conservatory at 615 Garfield St. is one of the top three historical sites in Oak Park, attracting some 30,000 visitors each year. The Edwardian-style glass structure, built in 1929, houses a botanical collection of more than 3,000 plants, some of which date back to the Conservatory's founding.
