St. Luke Parish in River Forest marked its 125th Anniversary in the community on Sunday, October 21, with a milestone celebration Mass followed by a well-attended reception in the school gym. Bishop George J. Rassas, Archdiocesan Vicar, presided at the Mass along with priests currently and formerly with the parish. Several members of the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters who have taught and served at the parish since 1921 were in attendance.
"What a wonderful day of celebration for St. Luke's," said Father Ken Fischer, the current pastor. "We are so grateful for the previous generations who built our parish over the years and who handed on the faith to us. And we joyfully re-dedicate ourselves to living the faith today and handing it on to the generations to come."
The year-long celebration of the St. Luke Parish Anniversary includes this past September's jam- packed Block Party, the October 18 Mass for St. Luke School students, a brunch planned for next spring, and more. Parish school and religious education students were given t-shirts that featured the stained-glass icon of St. Luke.
St. Luke Parish is located at the corner of Lake Street and Lathrop Avenue in River Forest.
