Forum to focus on new laws to deter teen tobacco, alcohol, substance use
An upcoming public forum on teen tobacco, alcohol and substance use will focus on recent law changes that place enforcement oversight with local adjudication authorities, rather than the circuit court. The forum is scheduled for 7 - 9 p.m., Wed., Oct. 24, in The Nineteenth Century Club, 178 Forest Ave. Local officials, including Oak Park Police Chief Rick Tanksley, will explain the new local ordinances and their potential effect on kids who are caught with tobacco, alcohol, cannabis or other drugs.. Officials also will discuss the results of the 2012 Illinois Youth Survey, which compares self-reported substance use by local middle school and high school students with others in Illinois and the nation. For more information on the forum, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Information on the new ordinances, as well as a forum flyer, are posted at www.oak-park.us/teenfocus.
