We got back Sunday from Italy. Aside from 2AM wake-ups ,my jet lag is diminished. They say that travel is educational. After this trip--my first ever to Italy --I must agree. We toured the churches and museums of Florence,Italy and the Amalfi Coast. Pretty amazing stuff. But hey even Marco Polo got tired. So I watched a little TV. The only English channels were the BBC World and CNN International. These channels had nothing on the Tea Party, Obama's dog, Hollywood bad behavior or who got screwed on American Idol. Nothing on a cute blonde girl gone missing. It was rather refreshing, and a reminder that the US is not the center of the known universe.
Most of the attention was focussed on the economic problems of Europe and the sexual misbehavior of the Italian Prime Minister. The latter reminded me of Bill Clinton's dalliance with Monica Lewinski. It was reassuring to know that a good sex scandal is of interest most everywhere.
