On July 24 two Oak Park natives Mark Jirik and Nate Prescottleft Illinois to begin a biking journey that started in Alaska, down the West Coast of North America, into Central and South America and will eventually end in Argentina— all in the name of charity … and adventure. Friends, Robyn Chang and Jason Fabeck, have joined the adventure as well.
Money contributed to Bike to Read, the name of their fundraiser, will go to the after school program at Chicago-based organization Erie Neighborhood House. The pair successfully traveled through Alaska and British Columbia and arrived in Seattle late last month.
They recently returned to Chicago to buy a new bike after Jirik's was stolen in Canada. He used a temporary bike, one a mechanic they met along the way helped them build, to get to Seattle.
Below are some pictures of their journey from Prescott's Instagram account.
