About 300 local Girl Scouts of Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park (Service Unit 409) shared a chilly fall weekend at Camp River Trails for the ninth annual Camporee. Almost 200 Junior, Cadette, and Senior Girl Scouts camped together two nights as temperatures dipped to a frosty 29 degrees.
The Brownies all came out for one day. On Sunday the Cadettes and Seniors shared fun with the younger Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts playing parachute games, melting wax for Buddy Burners, cooking on Vagabond stoves, and following trail signs on their hike around camp. The warm sun finally came out for the big sing-along and closing flag ceremony. Girl Scout SU 409 is part of the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and NW Indiana Council headquartered in Chicago.
