Comprehensive Plan workshops, meetings begin

The first in a series of business and community workshops and neighborhood meetings to maximize public participation in the process to update the Village's 20-year-old Comprehensive Plan are scheduled for Tues., Oct. 16. A business workshop will be held from 8 – 9:30 a.m. at the Oak Park Conservatory, 615 Garfield St., and a community-wide meeting from 7 – 8:30 p.m., in The Nineteenth Century Club ballroom, 178 Forest Ave. The Comprehensive Plan, last updated in 1990, serves as a guide in considering policy changes, land use, budget priorities and capital improvement planning. Triton to host prospective students

Prospective Triton College students are invited to learn about the college experience from students and faculty, and tour the River Grove campus from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sat., Oct. 13. Activities will begin in the Student Center cafeteria, which is Building B on the west campus – click here for a campus map. Information on a variety of topics will be available, including financial aid and admission requirements. In addition, NBC Channel 5 reporter Natalie Martinez will be a guest speaker. Get help kicking the smoking habit

Oak Parkers can get free help quitting smoking from the Illinois Department of Public Health. A wide range of programs, including free nicotine replacement patches, are available through the Tobacco Free Communities fund. Click here for more information.
