Rough Edges

Just when I think the local natural world has gone flat like leftover champagne, a quick glance at the IBET list gets me stirred up.   Get a load of these sightings:

“I saw about 15 bald eagles yesterday at Starved Rock State Park and the Ill Waterway Lock and Dam. They reported 75 on Sunday. Also saw many ring-billed gulls, Canadian geese, and common goldeneyes. Hiking on a bluff in the park I spotted a pileated woodpecker…”

“Saw three wild turkeys cross Russell Rd. just west of Delany Rd in northernLake County…”

“ The Snowy Owl found yesterday at the intersection of IL 72 and Fork CreekRoad, in far northwest Ogle County, was relocated at 10:25 a.m…. While you are in that area, keep an eye out for a Richardson's Merlin…”

“Crystal Lake chihuahua survives attack by Great Horned Owl…”  (Yikes!)

“ Pleasant birding today at two DuPage County locations. At Lyman Woods the best birds were CAROLINA WREN and WINTER WREN. At Hidden Lake highlights included BROWN CREEPER, EASTERN BLUEBIRD, FOX SPARROW, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and PINE SISKIN…”

Hope is the thing with feathers

That perches in the soul

And sings the tune without the words

And never stops at all.
