Mahoney, whose acting career goes back to 1977 at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, is perhaps best known for playing the role of Martin Crane, father of Frasier and Niles Crane, on the hit television comedy "Frasier" from 1993 to 2004.He also has worked as a voice actor and has performed on Broadway and in Chicago area theatres. Born in England, Mahoney has lived in both Forest Park and Oak Park.
Following a presentation of film clips from the actor's career, Oak Park film and entertainment critic Doug Deuchler will interview Mahoney, focusing on his career in theatre (both locally and on Broadway), film and television. The interview will be followed by an audience Q&A session. Mahoney will sign autographs in the theatre lobby after the event.
According to Historical Society Executive Director Frank Lipo, "Our villages are privileged to have had many fine actors and actresses call Oak Park or River Forest their home. We are excited about this event featuring our own John Mahoney. We hope it is the first in a series that highlights performers who have strong ties to Oak Park and River Forest."
