The start of a new year typically means promising ourselves we will commit to better habits. Work out more. Eat healthier. Try not to speed down the Eisenhower. And maybe for some, read more. If that last resolution strikes a chord, you may want to visit the River Forest Public Library on Monday.
The library begins its first community reading program, River Forest Reads, on Jan. 20. Join them in reading The Warmth of Other Suns by former Oak Park resident Isabel Wilkerson.
The library kicks off the program at 2 p.m. with an event called "Chicago: Emancipation to Inauguration," presented by musician, historian and tour guide Clarence Goodman.
"Goodman will take us on a virtual tour of Chicago," reads a description on the library's website, "and its pivotal role in Black History."
