Ascension School invites new families to visit and register for classes for its Centennial Year! Mary Jo Burns, Principal of Ascension School for the past thirteen years is justly proud of the position Ascension School is in as it begins its second century. "We are committed to continued growth and to our role as a model school for outstanding Catholic education in the Chicago area. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing the best foundation possible for our students to ensure that they become life-long learners. Our parents are actively engaged as our teaching partners and our parish is wonderfully supportive of our mission. We know how fortunate we are at Ascension: rich in history and tradition, grounded in the spirit of service, and blessed with the promise of a bright future."
Ascension won the Blue Ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education in 2007 because of consistently high test scores and a strong and varied curriculum. All students participate in Spanish, art, music, computer and gym classes. Ascension's extracurricular and co-curricular programs include orchestra, band, choir; interscholastic athletics (soccer, cross-country, basketball and volleyball); student leadership programs; Drama Club, Newspaper Club, Green Club and Art Club.
Ascension offers pre-school classes for three- and four-year-olds and an excellent Extended Day program for children who need before- or after-school care. The kindergarten program is full-day with a half-day option for parents who aren't certain that their child is ready for a full day of school. The kindergarten curriculum focuses on reading readiness and math concepts and includes gym, music, art, Spanish, science and religion.
Registration materials will be available at a full-school Catholic Schools Week Open House on Sunday, January 29 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm and at two Open Houses for our Early Childhood Education program on Tuesday, February 21 and Thursday, February 23 from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Ascension will begin processing new family registrations on February 20.
