Attention shutterbugs! Sunday January 15 is the deadline for the Friends of the Forest Preserves 4th Annual Photo Contest. I guess you could say that Thatcher Woods is my home base, and I'm always finding some new natural sight that is memorable and unexpected. Sometimes I have my camera and I get lucky enough to capture something pretty wonderful out there.
I've participated in a couple of these events now and it's great fun. What I like best - believe it or not - is seeing the work of the other photographers. What a joy it is to see the range of wild life that persists so very near to us. The shots selected last year included Sandhill Cranes, Shooting Stars, and Great Horned Owlets.
So here's a great excuse to get out and enjoy the new snow. Why not put that camera through it's paces on a winter hike in one of our preserves? You might just see something amazing!
