An evening of dance-works that evoke the feelings of fall. Classical ballet enthusiasts will enjoy Act II of La Sylphide, featuring Valery Dolgallo as Madge, the witch, and JP Tenuta as James. First choreographed by August Bournonville in 1836, the ballet tells the story of a young Scotsman, James, who is enchanted by a lovely Sylph and leaves his fianc? in pursuit of the magical creature. The ballet is synonymous with the Romantic Era, replete with a haunted forest, witches, flying sylphs, mist and smoke. Dance history buffs will appreciate our tribute to modern dance revolutionary, Isadora Duncan, including: Prelude, Ballspiel and Cherubim, all staged by Duncan expert (and Director of the Isadora Duncan Dance Company), Lori Belilove. Contemporary Works will reprise some favorites from our repertoire including Tom Trimble's Ashes - a haunting work set to the second section of Henryk Gorecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs; Sandra Kaufmann's The Vine - inspired by the artwork of William Blake and the mythology of the Maenads; and Stephanie Clemens' Japanese Suite - a group of dances reminiscent of the Floating World of Ancient Japan. The concert also features the premiere of a new musical collaboration with composer James Falzone and choreographer Sarah Cullen Fuller, featuring live musical performances by James Falzone, Thomas Holmes, Ellen McSweeney, and Liz Weamer. Concerts take place on Saturdays, Nov. 2 and 9 at 8PM and Sundays, Nov. 3 and 10 at 7PM. $20 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students. www.momentadances.org.
