Create special holiday memories for you and yours this weekend. You should start in in Riverside. Have you ever been to a performance by the Riverside Township Radio Players? Come see the holiday show which features, "Christmas for Carol and "Jack buys Don Shoelaces for Christmas". Showtime is 7pm on Friday, 12/14 with the Community Band performing all kinds of holiday music and then the plays begin at 7:30pm. Join the fun at Riverside Township Hall, 27 Riverside Road. Or, you can go to Oak Park's newest theatrical venue - Open Door Theater, 902 S. Ridgeland in the Oak Park Art's District. On Friday, 12/14 at 8pm come see and participate in "It's Snow Joke!" This promises to be a fun evening of improv and a seasonal sing-along. When's the last time you went to one of those? They ask you to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Oak Park-River Forest Food Pantry, and tickets and more details are available at www.opendoor.org or 708-342-0810.
Also playing at Open Door this weekend is "David Copperfield" in honor of the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens. Come see this adapted, one-man perfomance on Saturday 12/15 at 7:30pm and on Sunday, 12/16 at 2pm. See above website for ticket details. And, while you're in the Arts District, visit some of the beautiful galleries you'll find all along Harrison between Ridgeland and Austin. You may want to sample some of the excellent restaurants too.
This weekend offers another theatrical holiday classic that will make memories for you. "A Christmas Carol" will be performed at Oak Park's beautiful, Pleasant Home, 217 Home Ave. This one-man performance is crafted annually and delights year after year. Now for the shopping! It's "Out of the Box", an Artists' Holiday Market at 109 N. Oak Park Ave. In its 10th year, this is a gala shopping experience on Saturday, 12/15 and Sunday, 12/16 from 10am - 6pm. The shopping opportunities continue on Saturday and Sunday, 12/22 and 12/23 with the same hours. And, don't forget that parking is free in the Sould Blvd. lot on both weekend days.
